The midnight sun
It’s a mood which changes the landscape, bringing everywhere to life the whole night through.
The midnight sun provides daylight the entire day of 24 hours. It’s a cultural force noticed by all and which offers extra energy to experience the Arctic Circle Region during the summer.
Such is the effect of the midnight sun. The midnight sun is a part of the region’s landscape because it plays a part in shaping the rhythms of the cultural life, and because it feeds the rapid rise in people, plants and animals right around the clock.
Simply put, it’s quite simple. The sun’s rays give life to all organisms on earth, and if you live around the Arctic Circle, where the winter nights can be long, the desire to be active is extra strong when the light times begin.
This means visitors to the region are able to experience life throughout the entire night on the roads and around the buildings in the towns and villages. And once you’ve felt how soft and warm the summer light is in these parts of the world, you’ll know what the midnight sun means to the land and its people.
Light nights
From May until the end of July it never grows dark and the midnight sun in this region gives enough light and joy to all.
You’ll have enough energy this time of year to take a trip to the ice cap, and see its golden and orange glow in the night light. After that you can always go out to sea and fish or sail on a visit to a village.
Time doesn’t stand still – it’s only slowed by memorable activity.
